Effective 1st September 2019, cPanel, the world’s leading web hosting control panel, implements a new pricing structure.
Previously, a single cPanel license allowed the entire web hosting server to host unlimited website accounts for a fixed price. cPanel has discontinued the unlimited licenses from 1st September 2019 onwards. Instead, cPanel introduces pay-per-account licenses with account limits and prices which scale depending on the number of accounts in the server.
In simple term, now each cPanel user will have to pay for their individual account. As a result, web hosting providers like Website.com.bn will experience a massive price increase for their cPanel license.

With a global market share of around 70%, cPanel’s announcement came as a shock and has caught the entire web hosting industry by surprise. Web hosting providers around the world will have to adjust their pricing due to this, on average raising prices by 25% to 2,000% depending on the number of accounts using cPanel on their servers.
While we respect the business decision from cPanel, at Website.com.bn our mission is to provide affordable web hosting services for our clients, particularly in Brunei. Under current economic circumstances it is impractical for us to increase our web hosting prices by a significant percentage.
Our current cPanel license contract will expire by March 2020, from there we would have to decide whether to continue using cPanel and raise the prices for our users, or move away and integrate another web hosting control platform.
Like many web hosting providers around the world, we have made the decision to shift away from cPanel. Our choice is Spanel, a relatively new “all-in-one” hosting solution that has all the features users need to manage their website hosting accounts.
SPanel is fully compatible with cPanel, looks almost the same and any website working on a cPanel server will work on a SPanel server. With this, there will be no need to increase our package prices. We will begin utilizing the new platform by 1st December and the integration will be completed before the end of the year.
For our valued clients, there is no need to do anything on your side. We will begin the transition very soon to migrate to Spanel and will try our best to ensure minimal interruption to your website and email operation. You will be given notice and more details on what to expect in the upcoming weeks. We are working hard on the process and automation to reduce customer impact.
Website.com.bn is committed not only to provide quality hosting services but also to keep our prices competitive both in the Bruneian and international markets. The shift away from cPanel is our biggest operational changes since the establishment of Website.com.bn. It will avoid the needs for a price increase. We thank all our clients for their understanding on our decision to integrate a different hosting control panel, and hope for a smooth transition to Spanel for everyone.
