Raw Access Logs allow you to see who has visited your website, but unlike Awstats it is without the graphs, charts or other graphics. You can use the Raw Access Logs menu to download a zipped version of the server's access log for your website. This can be very useful when you need to see who is accessing your site quickly and/or when you need someone to look at your web statistics, but do not want to give that person your cPanel login.

How to Access Raw Access Logs

  1. Login to your cPanel. Under the heading Metrics, click Raw Access.
  2. Under Download Current Raw Access Logs, click the domain or subdomain you wish to download the raw log.
  3. Click on Save to save the log to your computer.
  4. Extract the downloaded file with WinZip (or another program which extracts .gz files).
  5. To view the log, open it with MS Word or WordPad (or any text reader which can interpret line breaks).

The raw logs can also be opened with a web statistics program of your choice (like WebLog Expert). The program will add graphics, charts, and other features.

Archived Raw Logs

If this is the first time you are configuring the Raw Access, you will see the message: Currently there are no archived log files under Archived Raw Logs. Do not worry about this message. It simply means that cPanel has not archived (backed up) any of your raw access logs.

You can enable archiving by scrolling up the top, go to Configure Logs, and check the box Archive logs in your home directory at the end of each stats run every 24 hours. If you want to minimize your CPU resource usage you can also check Remove the previous month’s archived logs from your home directory at the end of each month.
